Social Status

Women are always viewed as the ones “that are supposed to stay in the kitchen”, this fustrates me so much because I feel like women deserve so much more, and deserve to learn and be educated because there is so much in this world. Some people still do not like the fact that women are doctors, have a college degree, teachers, dentists, and so on. This just shows how much the society has improved over the years, and yes women rights are still not fair, and equal such as pay, but it has improved. Women were given the views to just stay home and cook, make sure kids are fed, and the house is clean, so the husband can come home to a home-cooked meal, and a clean house after a longday at work. 

In the play “The Importance of Being Earnest” written by Oscar Wilde shows how women stayed home, and men worked. Overall this play was one of the best roller coasters, it had many twists and turns, and ups and downs. A lot of unexpected news that just blew my mind, and some lies that just blew my mind as well. As far as this play goes expect the unexpected, because it will definitely keep you on your toes while reading. The men had their social status and I feel like it will always be a thing because people will always look, and judge you no matter what. In the world we live in today was different in way from the Victorian Era, girls would get engaged at age 16, and their parents would make sure the men had a good social status, such as a good income. 

The play was very humours and as it would get sad at times. I feel like Wilde did the best by keeping it funny, and entertaining. There was never a dull moment, and there was always something. The characters in the play each had their own strong opinions, and they surely were funny characters, especially when it came down to marriage and commitment marriage was strictly just a business deal, and supposed to be seen as nothing more than that, because it looked back at your social status of course. Overall, I would definitely read/watch this play again it was funny, and just such a light-hearted play definitely kept me on my toes. (395)
