The Unexpected

Death of the Cold Call by Travis Arnold on Dribbble

Death has been something that hurts so many people, but I think people should celebrate the lives of their lost loved ones. Celebrating the lost loved ones can just show how that lost one lived an amazing life, and I think it can really help with the mourning process. A lot of people don’t like letting go they hold on until they have their final answer or when they find peace with letting go. It can be hard to let go of a loved one, but when someone dies I believe that that person was ready to go, and they are being well taken care of. I was raised by always be peaceful with people because you never know when someone can go, and this has shown me life is difficult and stressful at times, but no matter what you should not go off the bed angry at someone, or never talk to someone again because you were angry at them. It can just show your true colors of how you are, and I just try to be happy because you never really know when the last time you will talk to someone. It can be heartbreaking because a lot of time people will go to be angry or upset with one another, and it will be sad to know that if something happened to that person those angry feelings can feel like they will never go away. That is because you feel like you never got to resolve those feelings with that someone. Death is something that everyone experiences in life, and you can not run, hide, or get away from death. It can be scary, but it is apart of life, and a lot of people have to accept it.

In my ENGL 1302 class, we are reading about death. I never really paid much attention to death, and how big it is apart of our lives. People have different opinions on what happens to us after we die. I grew up in a catholic household, so I believe you go to Heaven or hell after death. After reading the poems, and understanding death made me open my eyes a little more I am not saying I changed my religion, but it definitely made me realize how there are thousands of ways you can die, and you never really known when you are going to die. In the poem “Holy Sonnets: Death, be not proud” by John Donne is a poem that was really eye-opening to me, and made me realize that people can accept death, and I think if people were to accept death a lot of people could live their life better in the story Donne stated “And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die” (line 14) when I read that quote it really made me realize death is nothing more than death, and it should be nothing more. In the second poem, I am going to talk about is called “Elegy for My Father, Who Is Not Dead” author Andrew Hudgins. This poem caught my attention quickly, and when I was reading the poem it made me realize a lot of times I take for granted times I have with people I love most. In this poem, Hudgins is talking about his father, and how his father is okay to let go, but Hudgins himself is not, and he is not prepared for the day to receive a phone call that his father has passed. Hudgins had stated “He’s ready. I am not. I can’t” this quote really stood out to me because it can show a lot of times people are ready to go, but others can be holding them back.

Each poem has similarities and differences, and they both show how death is looked at so many different perspectives in life. The poets both expressed how they feel about death, and even how it can be hard to letting people go and just accepting death. It can especially be harder when you really love and care for someone and you are scared to let go, and you know they are ready to go but you just can not let go. Hudgins had shown that in the poem “Elegy for My Father, Who Is Not Dead” he showed and expressed that he is scared for his dad, and does not want to let go, but he knows one day he will. Just having accepted the fact of dying and death can be hard and challenging in life because it can all be unexpected and you never really know when it will Just have to accept the fact of dying and death can be hard and challenging in life because it can all be unexpected and you never really know when it will happen because it is life. Death can also be looked at like how Donne explained it in “Holy Sonnets: Death, be not proud” and how he was showing how death is nothing more than death in life, and it really should be nothing more. Everyone goes through death just like everyone goes through life when it is your time you may or may not know it can be hard, but no one said it would be easy. (877)
